Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC) has contracted Fugro Well Services Limited to drill and obtain cores from 10 sites in the Ulleung Basin, East Sea.
This project is part of the Korean Gas Hydrate Research & Development Organisation’s (GHDO) ongoing programme to determine the extent of Gas Hydrate
deposits in water depths between 950 to nearly 2,300 metres.
The Project workscope will be completed using the Fugro Synergy as the operating vessel with support from a number of Fugro entities. Accommodation and
laboratory facilities will be added to the deck layout to allow Korean and other international scientists to analyse the cores immediately on recovery.
Specialised support and scientific analysis will be provided by Geotek Limited.
The estimated 90-days project is scheduled to be carried out in spring/summer of 2010.
